What to Expect on Shredding Service Day
If you've never used a professional shredding service before, it's natural to have a few questions about how the day actually goes. What time will they show up? Do you need to be there? Can you watch? What if you need to pay by card?
These are the questions we hear most often before a first appointment — so we put the answers in one place. Here's exactly what to expect when Allways Shred™ shows up at your door.
We'll Call 30 Minutes Before We Arrive
Before we pull up, you'll get a call from the driver letting you know we're about 30 minutes out. That heads-up gives you time to wrap up whatever you're doing, make sure someone is available to meet us, and have your documents ready to go near the access point.
You won't need to sit and wait all morning. We'll give you a service window when you schedule, and that call-ahead makes sure you're not caught off guard when the truck pulls in.
What the Arrival Window Looks Like
We schedule service appointments within a set arrival window — typically a two-hour block. The 30-minute call-ahead is designed to work hand-in-hand with that window, so you're not guessing when to be available.
When the truck arrives, the driver will check in with you, confirm the scope of the job, and get to work. For most residential and small business jobs, the entire service call — from arrival to certificate in hand — takes between 15 and 45 minutes depending on volume.
Larger purge jobs with multiple filing cabinets or dozens of boxes will naturally take longer, but we'll give you a realistic time estimate when you book so there are no surprises on the day.
You Can Watch It Shredded — Right There on Site
This is one of the things that sets on-site shredding apart from drop-off services: you can watch your documents destroyed in real time.
Our trucks are equipped with industrial shredders that run on-site at your location. Once the documents are loaded, you're welcome to watch the entire process through the truck's viewing window. You'll see the paper go in and come out as confetti — no guessing, no wondering, no hoping it happened.
For businesses handling sensitive client records, financial documents, or anything with legal or compliance implications, witnessed destruction isn't just reassuring — it's often exactly what your internal policies call for.
🔒 Worth Knowing: Every Allways Shred™ job comes with a Certificate of Destruction issued at the time of service. This document confirms the date, time, and scope of the shredding and serves as your official record that secure disposal took place. Keep it with your compliance files.
Ground-Level Access Makes the Job Go Smoothly
Our shredding trucks are large commercial vehicles, and the equipment requires loading from ground level. To make service day go as smoothly as possible, here's what helps:
- Have documents staged near a ground-floor exit or close to where the truck can park. If you're in a multi-story building, having boxes brought to the lobby or loading dock before we arrive saves significant time.
- Clear a path from your document storage area to the exit point. Narrow hallways, stairwells, and locked doors can slow things down — especially with large volumes.
- Let building management know if you're in a managed office building that restricts commercial vehicles in the parking lot or loading area. A quick heads-up prevents delays on the day.
- For heavy loads — full filing cabinets, stacked banker's boxes — having a hand truck or dolly available is helpful, though our drivers come prepared for most situations.
If you have any questions about access ahead of time, just mention it when you book. We've worked in all kinds of locations — office towers, medical facilities, warehouses, residential homes — and we'll tell you upfront if anything needs to be arranged differently.
Payment: Cash, Check, or Card
We accept cash , check , and credit or debit card — payment is collected at the time of service.
Cash and check can be handled directly with the driver on-site. If you'd like to pay by credit card, just give the office a call before your appointment and we'll take care of it over the phone.
Payment is straightforward — no invoices to chase down later, no net-30 billing for one-time jobs. You pay when the work is done and the certificate is in your hand.
📋 Before Service Day — Quick Checklist:
- Documents staged near ground-level access point
- Someone available to meet the driver during the service window
- Building management notified if in a managed property
- Payment method ready (or call the office ahead for card payments)
Scheduled Service vs. One-Time Jobs — What Changes?
For customers on a recurring scheduled service, the process is essentially the same — but even smoother because we already know your location, your access points, and your typical volume. The driver will service your locked consoles, and you'll receive a certificate after each visit.
For one-time purge jobs, the same call-ahead, watch-it-happen, certificate-on-site process applies. The only difference is that purge jobs are usually larger in scope, so we'll spend a little more time on-site loading and processing.
As an industry leader in on-site paper shredding across the Carolinas, Allways Shred™ has built its reputation on showing up on time, communicating clearly, and getting the job done right — with documentation to prove it. Whether it's your first appointment or your fiftieth, service day should feel routine.
No Surprises. Just Shredding.
Call-ahead 30 minutes out. Arrival within your service window. Watch it shredded on-site. Certificate of destruction in hand. Pay by cash, check, or card — or call the office ahead if you're using a credit card. That's the whole process.

FAQs
What's the best way to prepare for an on-site shredding service appointment?
Stage your documents near a ground-floor exit or loading area before the driver arrives, make sure someone is available to meet the truck during your service window, and have your payment ready. If you're paying by credit card, call the office ahead of time to handle it by phone. That's all the prep most jobs need — the driver handles everything from there.
Do I have to be present the whole time during on-site document shredding?
You — or a designated representative — need to be available to meet the driver at the start of the appointment and sign off on the certificate of destruction at the end. You're welcome to watch the entire shredding process through the truck's viewing window, but you don't need to stand outside for the duration. For most jobs, the service call is short enough that it's worth staying nearby.
